The Bunker returns to Nowadays for the first time since 2019, presenting a lineup of artists who we think will push at the edges of what a night of club music can be.
Carrier is the new project from Guy Brewer, formally behind the Shifted alias. Over the course of the past 2 years, he’s released an album on Trilogy Tapes, 2 EPs on his own Carrier label, and an EP on the Felt imprint. This music immediately caught our ears at The Bunker, as it traverses the nebulous area that evades any genre categorization, while also referencing so many things we love. In short, this is some of the best music we’ve heard in years, the sound of the future. Tonight, Carrier presents the North American debut of his live set.
We also have a live set from none other than Abby Echiverri, an LCD Soundsystem member who has released on both The Bunker and our sublabel, Going In. As a live musician, Echiverri’s left-field musical influences, deft hardware manipulations, and experienced engineering meld into an inventive interpretation of techno. Abby has been holed up in the studio lately while on break from LCD, cooking up tons of new music, and we really can’t wait to hear her bring it out into the club!
Closing the event will be a DJ set from The Bunker and No Way Back resident DJ, Patrick Russell. Like everyone else on this lineup, Patrick plays music that is impossible to pinhole, falling into unexplored cracks between genres that hardly existed in the first place. This is a unique opportunity to see what happens when a master of winding and immersive music gets the chance to spread out and do whatever he wants on a world class soundsystem, and we’re anticipating a real unfolding into the depths of time and space.
Opening the event will be Camille Altay (they/them), a visual artist, composer and DJ who lives and works in Climax, New York. Camille spent formative years as a drum and bass dj in the house-heavy rave scene in Chicago in the late 90s. A contrarian in nature, Camille has been known to play genre-bending dj sets with influences ranging from Cumbia to Ghettotech. Camille has a recent release on the The Bunker’s long-form sub label Going In, is a founding member of of the group Birds of Prey, and collaborates with LA artist Israel Vines under the moniker CAIV, with the most recent release Dwellers EP out on Tresor Records.
