Regis is the pseudonym of Karl O'Connor, best known for his influential Downwards label that he has run with fellow art terrorist Peter Sutton (Female) since 1993. His work with the recently disbanded Sandwell District collective also turned a lot of heads in recent years. Unconventional and single-minded to say the least, by decentralising the focus on the DJ/producer personality, he remains one of the more highly regarded creative forces within the British techno/electronic scene. Regis' appearances in New York are few and far between. His gig at The Bunker at PAN_ACT at the Chinese Buffet was his first gig here in years, and gave us a taste of what we can expect tonight. Uncompromising in every way.
REGIS LIVE ON BOILER ROOMTalker is the project of Chicago artists Johnathan Krohn and Karl Meier. 2014 saw them drop their debut LP on Regis' Downwards imprint. Tonight is their NYC debut.
ELECTRONIC EXPLORATIONS MIXKarl Meier has long been working on the fringes of electronic music, but every record he makes is well worth owning. His 12"s as The Great Traitor (Remnant) and Kalon (Sandwell District), hinted at the greatness of his current project, Talker, who released on Regis' Downwards imprint last year. Very few if any DJs out there can match Karl's encyclopedic knowledge of all music. By all accounts, his recent set at Berghain brought the place to it's knees. We can't wait to hear what he has in store for us tonight.
We met Mahssa waaaay back when she was a clerk at Other Music. She's gone on to work with Finders Keepers and open her own incredible record store in Los Angeles, Mount Analog. In recent years she's been throwing events under the Mount Analog banner as well, and unsurprisingly she's had some of the most interesting lineups in the US. Tonight she plays a special warm up set. Expect some mind bending selections to start the night off properly.
