It’s been nearly a decade since Abby Echiverri’s debut EP on The Bunker New York. In that time she has continued to hone her mastery of leftfield, hardware-driven techno and broken beat, while maintaining a busy touring schedule as a synth player for LCD Soundsystem and an ongoing Lot Radio show, Tonal Fiction, where she delves deep into the sonic influences that define her unique approach to electronic music. With Wave Concave, she returns to the label with three tracks taken from her live set at The Bunker’s April 2025 party at Nowadays. But these, Echiverri stresses, are not snippets from a live recording—they were tracks built specifically for that night.

“[It] was the first time I tried playing without a laptop,” Echiverri states. For this set, she opted to use the Ableton Push, which required her to really dial in the ideas beforehand. But the arrangement, she says, “is done live and oftentimes there is blurry distinction as to which elements belong to one track or another.”

The result is a remarkably cohesive EP, a seamlessness that ties the tracks together, and a sense of the artist having full dominion over her tools. For her first Bunker release back in 2018, Echiverri said she wanted to “make music that rewires the brain: music that is challenging, yet groovy... repetitive, yet evolving. An aural psychedelic.” With Ab Initio she was just beginning to find that pocket. On Wave Concave, the vision has been refined and executed to perfection, with a maximalism that feels fresh, hypnotic and psychedelic without ever becoming overwhelming.

Across these three tracks, Echiverri showcases her penchant for restless, frenetic rhythms, evolving arpeggios that squelch and shimmer, soaring synth pads, and percussion lines that stretch the limits of the machines they’re made on. Rounding out the EP is a slow burning remix from Bunker veteran Patrick Russell. Over the course of seven minutes, Russell stretches and repurposes the emotional, ecstatic synthesis of the opening track “Luftzug” into an almost sinister excursion into the bass-forward, echo-washed corners of dub.
