Transcendental Number finds us in the midst of rhythm and humanity's eternal dance with one another. Within the six pieces presented here, Erik Luebs encourages us to inhabit the vastness of our own personal universes in a world constantly in flux.
A drummer at heart, rhythmic energy and its multiplicities exist at the forefront of these tracks—each an interlocking segment of a unified whole. Drawing upon formative life experiences between Southern California, Osaka, and his current home base in Tokyo, numerous intersections of sonic joy course through his musical DNA—from Osaka's gleefully chaotic experimental noise scene, to the cosmic bass weight of LA's seminal Low End Theory parties, and the liberation felt within the meditative, abyssal depths of techno events organized by DJ Nobu’s Future Terror crew. The love and influence of these ecstatic musical experiences are felt throughout Transcendental Number, as kinetic connection is transformed into sub-heavy reverberations of the astral metronome, with the effect of dissolving binaries between ourselves and the world around us. Universal mathematics are reimagined as fluid sound and melody, emerging from chrysalis with a broad wingspan and soaring beyond into the infinite. Laws of motion are electrified into boundless rhythms, activating particles as they intertwine, bloom, and blossom in a cycle of constant velocity. Diametric concepts of nature and machine, language and feeling, end and beginning all melt away—leaving our imagined world of opposites in the past, as we form a new vernacular for ways of existing together.
At its core, the music presented here exists to help propel dancers into beautifully exuberant unison—a collective excitement for the unknown, guiding us towards infinity within.
