Persil are two noisy neighbours from Amsterdam, The Netherlands with extra guitarist for gigs. They formed in 1997, after David gave up playing drums in Sonetic Vet (later to become Solex). Having released several singles and EP's on British and American labels, their debut-album "Duotone" (featuring a duet with Damon of American band The Swirlies), was released in March of 2004 on the Dutch Transformed Dreams label (home of Zea and Seedling). The band's sound can be described as electro/sample pop with fuzzy guitars and sweet and sensual vocals (in the press compared to Stereolab, Broadcast, Solex). Persil are favourites of BBC-Radio One DJ John Peel (He played six tracks of the "Duotone" album in his programs), for whom they recorded two sessions. Persil are on tour in the US (starting with a gig on the SXSW-festival in Austin, Texas). TransLove Airways is a group of five musicians who are deadset on purveying a sound that has been all but forgotten by bands in New York City: gritty soul, AM radio hits, funky rock 'n' roll, underground disco, and prog-rock are skillfully mixed together in a way that was somewhat common in a time when we listened to AM radio, but is so elusive today. TransLove Airways like a lot of really good, really wrongfully obscure records, they like writing music culled from their diverse influences, and they play their respective instruments with startling mastery. DJ Anna S comes to us all the way from Finland, where she is the resident DJ at the eclectic Club Bundolo. She spins house, breaks, dancehall ... whatever gets the dancefloor moving. Anna has a background in competitive Latin and ballroom dancing, and as we've noted here many times, the best dance DJs are the ones who actually go out and dance. Aside from her Bundolo residence, Anna has played all over the world, and was a participant in the 2002 Red Bull DJ Academy in Brasil. Greg Shiff is a minimal techno master, with releases out on Stewart Walker's Persona, NYC bases Matter/:Form, and even Sasha's (yes, of Sasha & Digweed fame!) Bedrock! Tonight he will be playing some laid back funky soul and disco to get the night started properly.
