The Bunker presents Brian Jackson and Smartypants at subTonic

This week we have two excellent minimal dubby techno DJs, should be a great party: Brian Jackson's involvement in underground music culture goes back more than 15 years. A Detroit native now residing in NYC, he spent 8 years in San Francisco, While in SF he co-founded the avante-pop/ electronic rock act I Am Spoonbender (1996-2000) and performed with acts such as Wire and Einsturzende Neubauten. Also, while in SF he earned an MA in East-West Psychology from CIIS, studying with consciousness research pioneers such as Stan Grof and Richard Tarnas. In 2000 he met visual artist Phoenix Perry and together they started working under the Form8 umbrella. Projects include the award winning and scene making events SYNTH, experimental audio/visual projects that have appeared in the London Biennale and Expo 2000 (Hanover, Germany), and the live electronic music/video act Memory Systems (which is currently working on a new record). Brian is also a professional audio engineer. His DJ sets are often eclectic, but usually feature synth-driven, minimal, and dubby techno, dark electro, experimental acid house, and an occasional Waxtrax era classic. Michael Uzzi, aka Smartypants, was trained as a classical percussionist at the New England Conservatory Of Music in Boston. Somewhere along the way he decided he d rather mess around with turntables and computers and stuff. The pants busted onto the scene in Boston in 2001, both as a DJ and as a live act. Upon his relocation to New York in 2002 he quickly became a staple of the underground techno scene there, holding down a residency at the Aphasic parties and frequently playing guest slots around the city. In September 2003 Mike returned to Boston and is currently a Saturday night resident at River Gods with the rest of the Unlockedgroove crew. He has performed with Stewart Walker, Fred Gianelli, Todd Sines, and Dinky to name a few. As a producer, Smartypants has had tracks released by Traum Schallplatten, Sentrall Records, and Adhesive Records, with more releases in the works. These days the pants is known to lay down some deep minimal house and techno.
