The Mini-Mutek event we hosted on both floors of Tonic two years ago was one of the best parties we ever threw in that space. We have been long time supporters of Mutek, and are thrilled to have the opportunity to give NYC a sneak preview of what this cutting edge festival will have to offer for it's 8th edition in Montreal in early June. We welcome Akufen, who has played at Mutek many times and helped put the Montreal electronic music scene on the map. We also present a live set from Someone Else, who will be making his debut appearance at Mutek this year at Metropolis on Saturday.

Akufen is one of the most well-known micro-house producers in the world. His 2002 debut album "My Way" on Force Inc caused ripples in the electronic music waters that are still being felt today. Since then, he has remixed everyone from Richie Hawtin to Massive Attack. Akufen incorporates found sounds, random radio static, and other weird noises into his music, giving it an instantly recognizable sound that really stands out from other producers. In 2005, he released "Musique Pour 3 Femmes Enceintes" (Music for 3 Pregnant Women) on Mutek Records. This critically acclaimed album was aimed more at home listened environments, and really shows his range as a producer. Be on the lookout for a live presentation of this work later this year at the Bunker. Tonight Akufen will treat us to a DJ set. We have hosted pre-Mutek events with Marc for the past two years, and are honored to welcome our Canadian friend back for another round.

Since 1994, Someone Else has been the force behind his ever-evolving, kitsch-driven electro-pop outfit, Flowchart, releasing dozens and dozens of albums, singles, eps and comp tracks on different labels from all over the world.

As his love for minimal techno solidified by 1998, Sean teamed up with Jay Haze and Bjoern Hartmann, and together they launched the Tuning Spork label. While making dance music with field recordings became more and more his shtick, Sean launched the Foundsound and Unfoundsound record labels together with Miskate and Fusiphorm. Over recent years, Sean's production skills have been garnering respect among internationally renowned djs and labels alike, as reflected by his massive discography of releases and remixes for labels like Musik Krause, Tuning Spork, Foundsound, Mo's Ferry, Microcosm, Nummer, Kickboxer, Sender, Alphahouse, Roman-Photo, Level Non-Zero, Mule Musiq, hello? repeat, Revolver and many others. This was accompanied by extensive world touring, and he was voted as one of the best live acts of 2006 in Groove magazine. Sean continues to spin and play live all around the world.

We've hosted Sean at many Beyond Events in the past including many Undercity dj sets, several live sets at the Bunker, and an appearance at last year's New Years Eve party with Wolf + Lamb. He is currently on tour to support his new album, "pen caps and colored pencils", on his own Foundsound imprint, plus a brand new Foundsound single featuring a Josh Wink remix that we've been playing alot at the Bunker. He will be moving to Berlin this summer, so this is your last chance to catch him for a good while.
