alka_rex, aka Sascha and Eddie, are the "Digital Russians" of the NYC minimal techno scene. They released a double album on Mille Plateaux side label Supralinear last year, a 12" on Musique Risquee in the spring, and the first Thema EP in July. The new tracks are incredible, and their live set just keeps getting better, so expect a packed dancefloor tonight and a bright future for alka_rex. Function (aka Dave Sumner and Portion Reform) has been one of the major players in the NYC techno scene for a very long time. His series of Substance events at Limelight were legendary, including guests like Jeff Mills, Surgeon and many other notables. Now he's doing the Phono series at Avalon (former Limelight) on Saturday nights, bringing proper minimal techno to the weekend big club crowd. He's also thrown some hugely successful afterparties at DEMF the past three years. Aside from throwing great parties, Dave is a very successful recording artist, label owner, and DJ. He recently released Sleeparchive's remix of Regis on his Infrastructure label, and will be releasing a Thema 12" soon. Lately he has been using Ableton Live to create DJ/Live hybrid sets full of exclusive remixes and re-edits of heady minimal music. His opening set for Sleeparchive at the Bunker back in March was incredible. Since 1989 Leonard Posso has been a fixture in New York City's underground music scene. By the mid nineties he had taken up the incurable habit of amassing a library of vinyl. His name is on several releases as he has designed artwork for a slew of indie techno labels from around the world. He started several weekly and bi-monthly parties (the infamous Brooklyn rooftop/loft parties, Composition, MILQ & Rebel), where he DJed alongside numerous respected international and local artists in the electronic underground music scene. His motivation lies in the pursuit of engaging the audience to some of the most current and obscure music available. This year his concept label Thema, a personal project that's been in the works for some time, is coming to fruition. After taking a short break from playing out in New York, Leonard is back on the decks feeling the vibe and mixing his eclectic bag of tricks.
