Sightings are one of the most interesting, and definitely inspired, rock(?) bands in new york and maybe even the world. Heavy hard slow dirge loud crash scream wail stop start syncopated noise. Like wow. If you haven't caught these guys in one of their whirlwind tours to japan or europe, or the myriad of underground lofts in brooklyn, you must check this out. Serious respect. For tonight's set, Sightings are joined by Tom Smith of To Live and Shave in LA on vocals, for the first and possibly only time ever. Will be wild. Ghost Exits are a duo that use drum machines, synths, guitar and bass to create some seriously f*cked up, lo-fi, druggy, noisey, funky otherness. They recently released their beautiful debut 12" on the Social Registry. Dan Selzer moderates the most excellent NY Happenings mailing list, and runs the Acute record label, re-issuing much heavy post-punk music. Before the cops shut down Plant Bar, he ran Transmission, a weekly party with Luke from the Rapture. He is an amazing DJ with an impossibly deep knowledge of dance music and a record collection to match. Like any truly great DJ, he likes to dance. Porkchop is a member of Excepter (who will be playing upstairs at Tonic on 12/12 with Viet Nam). We don't know much about him, but we expect he'll be really good since Dan says so.
